PM question: what are you trying to express?

I've been asked this question a few times in the last couple years when going through interview process.

"What view(s) are you trying to express in this portfolio?"

I'm not sure I ever had a good answer. I'm going long names that have upside to numbers and shorting names that have downside to numbers. Then there's a valuation overlay. I'm just a simple man trying to extract a little bit of alpha.

For the PMs out there, what are some examples of "views" expressed in a portfolio? I guess reopening trade would be one.
