Yes, I am. That's going to happen in late 2019 For now, I'm just doing consultancy. Nowadays, everything is easier than ever for new entrants. Infrastructure is getting cheaper and cheaper, and the petabytes of data are extremely accessible. Maybe not for an individual, but for a fund it is. I do not think cryptos is an option yet in this space (HFT). Fees are extremely high and exchanges' technology too immature. Not to mention the lack of liquidity. I think that needs more time until the HFT guys enter into this space

easiest way is being a software engineer. They are hiring even if you have no experience in finance. Nowadays, data scientist is the golden skills. Software engineer, still needed. Math or Physics also wanted I don't think courses will help you. It's a matter of getting involved and gaining experience.

Interesting data. Thank you. It seems that doing 20+ to 50+ trades per day I fall somewhere in between "Other professional/Swing Trader" and "Market Maker". How old are these data? I know that HFT's are everywhere, but somebody told me that trading Dow e-minis is much easier than trading S&P e-minis, because Dow e-minis are "mostly for retail, while S&P e-minis are for professionals". That person was saying that S&P is much more "infested" with HFT's and the execution is much harder there, given that my time-in-position varies from several seconds to ~3 minutes (top).

Anything long term (higher than an hour) is too risky for my taste. The shorter the time frames, your exposure to market fluctuations is less In terms of strategies, besides the well kknown latency arb, you have market making (one of my favorites), mean revertion and also momentum. Of course these are strategies that try to catch a VERY small profit and get out.
