Gents, I have been thinking about this for a while now and want to know your opinion as I'm sure there's someone who was in the same spot. I'm 2nd year IBD analyst in a tier 2 bank in Europe (not London) and I dream of transitioning to an HF in London. Do you think it's possible or should I stop dreaming about it and just focus on my investments (which a like doing anyway) and stick with IB long term?

Don't stop dreaming. If that's what you want, make a plan and execute. Have many YOE you have? You still have at least 35yrs of work ahead so you have all the time of the world to get where you want. Don't be impatient, don't be stressed by few successful peers you see around, but don't let your dreams go away. There are people landing seats in HF out of multiple backgrounds. It's less preppy than going into PE where the way to get there is much more predefined - so, don't think you're out of the game. But don't expect to jump to unattainable place all at once.
