Recruiters for Senior HF roles

My firm is looking to hire rockstar talent with 1-4 years of SM HF experience. Which recruiters would folks recommend to work with to find this kind of talent?

Is a big issue with Dynamics/Search1 that because they have so many of the HFs as clients, we wouldn't see candidates from a lot of the market?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Dynamics and SearchOne are known to have a significant number of post-banking hedge fund (HF) clients, which could indeed mean that they might not be able to present candidates from their client HFs due to non-solicitation agreements. However, they are still among the top recruiting firms that specialize in placing candidates in hedge fund roles. Here are some points to consider:

  • Dynamics and SearchOne have established relationships with many hedge funds, which can be beneficial in finding candidates with the specific experience your firm is looking for.
  • It's true that working with these large recruiters might limit the pool of candidates from certain funds due to non-solicitation agreements.
  • To circumvent this potential issue, it might be worth reaching out to multiple headhunters, including more boutique firms that may have different client lists and therefore access to a wider range of candidates.
  • It's also advisable to leverage personal and professional networks, as hedge funds often hire through these channels as well.

If you're looking for "rockstar talent" with 1-4 years of experience at a senior level, it's crucial to communicate your specific needs clearly to the recruiters, so they can target the right individuals. Additionally, consider that recruiters often select candidates who are "paper rockstars"—those with top qualifications on paper, such as experience at top banks or funds, high GPAs, and degrees from target schools. If your firm values different or additional qualities, make sure to emphasize those in your discussions with recruiters.
