Curious about this, as I’m also going into a MM. What exactly are you giving up when starting out your career this way? Have always been interested in public equities but am actually curious about what’s supposed to happen if I find out I absolutely hate it.

Not the original poster, but for me was a few factors

- Platform shops have a specific investing style that doesn’t suit me (focus on quarterly earnings as catalysts). I am more interested in activism and special situations.

- I want to be a Generalist Investor.

- Platforms have very little job security and there isn’t guaranteed team placement after MMHF training programs.

- The training programs themselves seem needlessly competitive and I’m admittedly just not ready to join the buyside 6 months after graduating (after the training program).

Went for an M&A role at EB instead and am looking to play the long game with PE for two years and HF after that.
