Skills for HF career success
I am on the buy side working in private markets with a growing interest in pursuing a long term HF career.
For those already in the industry, what are the most integral skills I need to do well and become a PM on day? I understand the obvious skill set of being able to do fundamental/competitive analysis, valuation, macro/capital flows, etc. In addition, do I need to be (or become) some math/statistics nerd or learn how to program via SQL, Python, etc.?
If I want to go in and be best positioned to succeed, what should I be prepared to know and learn? And what is some anecdotal advice for people to know that have become apparent for you or you learned the hard way?
