Starting at a SM in a few months — dress code / standard?
I know in banking it varies quite a bit but due to it being client facing dress pants, dress shirt, and blazer with no tie was standard (take blazer off in office and keep on chair with tie in desk drawer).
What’s typical in the world of HFs? I’m not gonna lie, I like the more traditional dressy attire of pants, button downs, oxfords, blazers, etc. but obviously I don’t want to look like a clown being one of the only overdressed junior try hards.
Trying to plan a bit in advance and buy some versatile pieces (as sales come and go on Saks off 5th etc.) but don’t want to buy the wrong stuff.
I know again it’ll vary from fund to fund but tryna get a gist. Thanks in advance!
White tie
Generally it’s biz casual to just casual unless you’re meeting management/LPs. Some funds will be more uptight but at a big 3 pod shop you’ll see senior analysts in t shirts - things were always more relaxed and got even more so post-Covid
