What Does Optionality Look Like at a MM HF?

As someone who used to think that investment banking was the path for them but has recently gotten very interested in the HF space, I wanted to ask what does career optionality look like if you start from a MM HF (like P72 or Citadel). Is the switch over to PE 2 years in still possible? Or is even a return back to banking plausible?
