What does Treasury at a multistrat hedge fund do?

Hi folks, I am researching how Treasury within a (multistrat) hedge fund works and what they really do. Public sources and LLMs are not particularly detailed, especially how their work relates to the portfolio managers and operations in a hedge fund.

Any experiences and sources are welcome!

It's back office. Think accounting/finance team. Responsibilities are pretty ubiquitous across the function.

Appreciate your reply on this, I am keen on learning further details on this. Especially how this helps the pods/portfolio managers doing their work.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but it really doesn't have any relevance to the actual investing. It's handling the plumbing of the fund itself, that excess cash is being managed (e.g. where are they storing "dry powder" to get the best yield) and funds are held in a complaint manner. You will have near 0 interaction with the investment teams and your work has little to not impact on how they do their jobs.

I find it difficult to find detailed public sources, appreciate any help.

Honestly, just look up any treasury/financial accounting roles for HF/PE/IB they're all going to give you a rough idea of what the role will be like. There will of course be some differences between the varying types of financial institutions but as I said, the roles themselves are fairly ubiquitous. If your goal is to try and eventually work in a front office capacity (i.e. investing/trading) then this is not a path you should pursue because it's incredibly difficult to move from back to front of house even in the best of times - and this hiring market is far from good.
