What makes a star analyst/PM?

For those who’ve seen many thrive, fail or just do “fine” in the industry, curious to know your take on what sets a “great” analyst (and/or PM) apart from a “good” one? How quickly can you tell when someone has that moneymaker potential? What are the characteristics common to those individuals?

track record. I don't think there's a quick way to tell because everyone's good at talking and articulating how "good" their process is. track record is all that matters, past and present. There's a good post from a few days ago about bad PMs and characteristics
