Where to find friends to talk about infrastructure and application software public tech companies?
I really like public tech companies (late stage venture just as well but harder to get a satisfying amount of information about them). My favorite subsector is infrastructure software, but application software is pretty cool too. As for the former, I can't stop reading about Snowflake, Confluent, Twilio, MongoDB, etc.; it makes me absolutely euphoric to learn about this tech.
Learning about the financials for me is kind of a necessary evil given my business / finance background and because I will never be an engineer. IMO if you just buy the long term basket of infrastructure software stocks you will make plenty, plenty, plenty of money.
My biggest problem is that I only have one friend who kind of likes this stuff but I am trying to find other people who I can talk to about this stuff. One idea was Discord or Slack communities, which I think would be satisfactory (I don't feel the need to mix IRL shithead drinking buddies with internet infrastructure software nerd friends).
I'm not sure if there are other ideas I haven't thought about. What would you recommend?

I’m an SRE (Site Reliability Engineer)/ Platform Engineer at a video streaming SaaS. There’s lots of good engineering blogs too if you like the topic of uptime and SLAs. Uber and Netflix are probably the best to read.
Additionally, if you wanted to get more technical you can get your AWS CCP. You don’t need to know how to code to do that and learn.
I'm interested in learning more - do you mind linking the blogs you're referring to? There's so much content on those two I worry about finding the wrong thing and thinking it's what you're talking about.

I set up the seeds for chaos engineering at the last fintech company I was at too. Left because the hours were atrocious. Now work at the video streaming company.

You got it. A lot of stuff is open sourced too which makes it helpful, if you’ve invested in automated testing upfront (which most places don’t). Serverless architecture (commonly used for event based architecture) seems to be a good, scalable option if you want to create something that’s not too complicated.
CPU intensive tasks (ML, huge data processing, video streaming) are the exception and you want to performance tune your compute instances. I’m super passionate about this stuff.
