Why do family offices file 13Fs?
If druckenmiller and tepper are both family offices now (reported by the media), why do they still file 13Fs to the SEC? Esp since they're no longer required to. I don't get it.

While I dont know why those two outfits in particular file 13Fs, I am positive this is not the reason.
Fair enough, only reason I could think of. Big name investors like publicity

I interned at one of the big FOs a few years ago and the rough explanation as I remember it was even though you don’t technically have to follow a bunch of regulations as a FO most do anyways as a good faith act for the regulators. They’re going to come knocking eventually for one reason or another, best to already have a positive relationship and history of compliance before then
