1st year FT analyst applying to FT programs

Do you know anyone that had successfully applied to new analyst FT programs at MM/EB/BBs as a 1st year analyst (i.e. at a lower tier bank or regional boutique) and got in? Was wondering if the application would make sense compared to lateraling 6-12 months in.

All of these programs are a year out starting at a time when I would ideally like to lateral myself, and since laterals coming from smaller banks usually lose a year/start with 1st year analysts I was wondering if applying to these new analyst programs is a worthwhile attempt.

No, you will get auto-dinged by the system and no one will see your application. In order to qualify you have to be graduating between December and June of that year. When you input a grad year earlier than that, you will get filtered out.

You have to network, no way around it. But lateraling with 1 year of experience is way easier than trying to get in through the FT application shuffle. FWIW, most of the time they won't add you to the first year class right as they're starting, as every spot they have is filled through the undergrad pipeline. Your slot is either 8-10 months post start if you feel ready by then, or wait until about 18 months as some of the first years start leaving. Depending on how unknown/small your current bank is, MMs might be a good place to start.
