Accelerated promotion and overtake colleague?

Anyone have experience of overtaking colleagues in banking at associate and VP level? Performance wise and internal politics wise everyone knows person x is a defacto senior and more better. However person y is technically senior by title? Both associates but one closer to VP.

in the rigid structure of banking, any advice on how to materialise and catch up or overtake?

You can pull this off, however, I am assuming you are willing to play dirty. In that case, you will need an MD who shits on your competition to facilitate you. This MD will be your main sponsor behind closed doors and acts like your adopted father.

Caveat being your competition will become lifelong enemies if they find out you sabotaged them.
