Applying to an insight event at BB: do I mention the firm I'm working at for my SA or keep it anon?

Hi

I am applying to an office day event at a bulge bracket. I also hold a summer internship offer at a different company that I'm very happy with. However, given the industry is very small, I wasn't sure if I should put the name of the company I'm working at over the summer explicitly on my CV. My worry was that someone at the BB would contact the firm and tell them I attended the office day event, especially since they are both very competitive in M&A transactions in the sector I'm covering.

Is it a big deal such that I'm thinking too much about it or should I keep the name off the CV until after I completed the summer internship?

Many thanks :)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally advisable to be cautious in situations like this. The finance industry is indeed small, and people talk. If you're concerned about potential repercussions, it might be wise to keep the name of the firm you're interning at anonymous on your CV for now. Instead, you can describe it in a way that highlights the prestige and relevance of the experience without explicitly naming the firm (e.g., "Top-tier investment bank in M&A").

This approach minimizes the risk of your current firm finding out about your attendance at the BB event, especially if the two firms are competitors. Once you've completed the internship, you can update your CV with the firm's name. Ultimately, the decision depends on your comfort level with the potential risks, but discretion is often the safer route in such competitive environments.
