At what level is IBD preferable to PE out of undergrad?
This has been discussed some but would love to hear updated insights now that we have more historical evidence to go off of as more PE firms are hiring undergrads to analyst positions.
Out of undergrad, what would you choose? MF PE>top IBD>MM PE>Not top IBD? Or does it look more like top IBD>MF PE>not top IBD>MM PE? Obviously it’s not as simple as this, just wanted to get some thoughts going. Pros and cons of IB vs PE out of undergrad? Why did you choose what you did?
Even if you want PE long term, is it actually better to go to a top IB group first?
I had an analyst PE offer (think $10-15bn shop with $2-3bn latest fund size) vs EB (pjt/evr/cvp) i chose the EB and will be exiting to an upper MM (think warburg/golden gate).
If I could go back Id probably take the EB offer over anything except MF PE (assuming analyst -> associate track is there)
How is Warburg not a MF?
