Audit to Internship
Hello banking enthusiasts,
Wondering if anyone has experienced/heard of instances where someone has gone from big 4 audit to landing an internship after completing ACA qualification?
From my research, I haven’t come across this, but particularly interested in hearing from people in IB (more informed than myself).
I am nearing the completion of my ACA (big 4) and wondered whether internship is an realistic/achievable route compared to Audit > Big 4 M&A /Ts > IB. NB assume internship is for recent graduates not penultimate or 2nd year undergrads.
Possible, yes. To be candid, however, it will be very difficult. The main issue is differentiating yourself vs. every other person with your profile - did you go to a target? If semi, did you get a 1st? Did you do any societies at uni? Did you do a summer internship in IB? If the answer to all those is a no, your CV will not stand out at all. If so, then you need to network very very hard and aim for firms that don't advertise positions on the tracker where everyone and their mothers in continental Europe check daily (ie. very small firms working on very small deals). Then, if you're lucky, work your ass off for a return and then lateral to a better shop. It will be a grind, but if you're up for it (and many ignored emails), then go for it. There is no downside.
Just my two cents, but in your position, I'd be bold (but not at the expense of being professional) in your approach. Good luck...
