I started working at this BB in London this year and I know its super intense and I shouldn't be expecting any day off but since there is a bank holiday on May 3rd, Id like to know if usually these are calmer or can be taken. I want to plan ahead and idk how to ask my boss already

Well normally you should not work on bank holidays os cannot really take a day off. From my experience people will let you breathe if you take another day off around the bank holiday.
