Barclays SA 2021
Wanted to rant about the lack of communication between Barclays HR regarding the summer internship. We don't even know when the "in-person sessions" are supposed to be, so no clue on how to plan my stay in NYC. Also, when is group placement going to happen? Do we get any stipend or resources for WFH set-up? So many unanswered questions makes me anxious...
Would appreciate any insight from previous interns or comments on how other incoming interns are thinking about things.
No insight, but have a friend there (London) and its horrible lack of communication and asking interns to be within commuting distance but still being virtual is pretty awful.
HR is often super unhelpful. If you legitimately need to plan, try reaching out to one of the Ds or MDs who ran recruitment. If one of them is the development officer or whatever, even better. Just send a short email about timeline, and don't ask about money or stipends etc.

I hear they are always super late with placement. I'm thinking we'll be placed by early June.
As for resources for WFH, I heard that last summer their interns did not receive any setup.
Just got an update email outlining events and emails to expect before start of SA.
The timeline does not mention group placement preference sheet. It only states that we will get an email with group placement and manager in June. Any thoughts?
I'm thinking the "Virtual Networking Event" is sort of like the "sell-day" for the groups. I assume we will be ranking groups after that.

staying remote at first but might go up there if it's worth it. Will FT people even be in the office this summer...analysts that I've talked to are targeting early fall.
Was thinking to find a sublease from 2nd week of July. And will stay home 2 hours away in the beginning.
How will you find a place last minute? Hotel?

FT analysts are starting off virtual training on July 26, which leads me to believe SA's won't be in the office until a few weeks after that.

And full times are starting remote. How are those dependent?
They're probably not going to have SA's in-person while having FT remote. Since FT start remote 7/26 (5 weeks into SA), they will probably be remote for at least the next couple weeks, which leaves only 1-2 weeks of a possible in-person situation for SAs or FTs.
I am going to be in the city the whole summer, anyone else have that situation? I guess I overestimated how many days we'd be in the office for, let me know your situation; I'm staying at an Airbnb a few blocks from the office. Feel like not that many people did this.
I am looking for airbnb near office now but was thinking from mid july to mid august only. I was going to start at my family home about 1:45 hours away. I am having a hard time finding airbnb. I only want within 15 min walk from office. Hells kitchen and times square are pretty unsafe rn. Would love input on any of this
Had a similar situation, I just bit the bullet and took an apartment living with my host, very near Times Square, around $4,000 for 9.5 weeks all in (not as bad as it could've been lol). Seems like a good guy though and it's roomy enough for airbnb, ngl the options in NYC are horrid right now though. My friend that lives midtown says things are better there but they told me crime has been rising and that it's not worth walking long distance.
Are group placements going out today/over the weekend? It’s nearly a week before we start lol my friends at every other BB have known their groups for months.
saw the "welcome to Barclays Technology" email and got my hopes up. Turns out it's about IT logistics. I'm assuming we should have them by next Monday at the latest, but hoping for this weekend.
I wish they would tell us which day would group placements come out.
