Can I apply to a firm I'm currently working with?
I'm currently working part-time in PE while I'm at uni. On one of the deals i'm working on the other side are being advised by a small boutique - if I apply there and name drop the people I'm working with (director level), am I risking losing my current job through some sort of conflict interest? Also, do you think there is a chance they will tell my current manager I have applied there (if HR contact them), risking my job?
I would just be honest with your boss and see if he can connect you with some higher ups there and put in a good word. This is assuming your boss and you have a sort of mentor/mentee relationship and you can tell him why your interested in x company
