Career in IB without an Internship from a non-target school
Hey everyone, I'm going to start my penultimate year after the summer and I am going to apply for SA roles when they open in a month, now I come from a non-target school as my University is in Edinburgh, Scotland and the closet IB firms are in London, so hundreds of miles away so I find that it may be difficult to network with some M&A bankers. I was curious about if worst case scenario if I get no offers and manage to graduate in 2 years with a 2:1 what would the possibility be of me being able to land a role in IB?
I'd appreciate any feedback
Thanks Stephen
What university are you going to? Networking in the UK only enables you to get your app flagged from the online portal.
I would recommend trying to get into a Master at a targeted Uni if you fail to break into IB during your undergrad.
I attend Heriot-Watt, I'm not sure how well known it is amongst M&A bankers or even whole firms. My back up plan is to apply for a Masters, either in Economics, Finance & Investment or Financial Engineering.
Presence in IB is pretty non existent. Most people seem to get through Big4 Corporate finance before joining IB.
Big 4 have come to my university on career days and some have said that usually their employees never transfer to Banking at all, they tend to transfer to smaller firms in the same field to gain more responsibility and move up the ladder quicker.
