Corporate Banking Job Market
With investment banking job cuts across the board, what does that mean for corporate bankers? Considering their livelihood isn't based as much on deal flow as the former, would it be reasonable to assume that cuts in CB, even if under the IB umbrella of a bank, won't be as insane?
I wouldn't expect a lot of cuts, but there will be some I think. Corporate bankers are joined up with IB from a coverage perspective and if the plan was that you were going to add new lending names to drive M&A, ECM and DCM that might not happen. The IB business isn't there and that will drive lending decisions for all names, but particularly new names. However, CB is more defensive in that you still need people to cover existing clients. I think that it will really depend on industry coverage and how deep staffing is on various teams.
