Corporate Development to Investment Banking Without IB Experience
I’m currently in corporate development at one of the larger F500 companies in my industry (been in the job for 1.5 years). I was a strategy consultant at a T2 consulting firm and a boutique consulting firm before focused on M&A commercial due diligence for about 2.5 years. I want to make the shift into investment banking, but I would really like to avoid going the MBA route as that would take an additional 2 years to break in. Would it be possible for me to lateral into banking? If so, how should I approach it? I’ve done some resume drops through the career portals so far this past week, but would love this forum’s advice. I’ve closed 4 deals so far with total value in the multi-billions, and my team doesn’t use bankers so I believe I built some good experience. I asked for sample resumes from friends in banking and structured my resume in the same format (listing out transaction experience, etc).
