Did it for my momma

Well ladies and gentlemen, here's another one of these rags to riches posts. Seen a couple of these being posted this week so I'll save you guys the spiel. Typical broken family, having to sell things to make ends meet, made it to semi-target, late to the game but scraped up enough to put on my resume and land an IB role full time.

I couldn't be more excited. I like everything about my new role: the city, coverage, people, the name brand. It truly seems like a perfect fit for me. If I could go back a year and a half into the past and tell the younger, more miserable, lonely and depressed version of me that it'll all work out....well, he probably wouldn't have believed me.

I want to spread the joy I am feeling onto this forum. WSO has been incredibly helpful to me, and I want to give back as much as I can as a current monkey. My momma loves the number 10, and in celebration of this great accomplishment, here are my top 10 truisms of life. Feel free to discuss, modify, and add as you wish:

1. Work ethic and a strong sense of self will bring you great success in life.

2. Replace "I got to.." with "I get to..." and you will understand gratitude.

3. 99% of things that happen to us are not completely our faults...but what you do in reaction to those things determine who you are.

4. The world is a reflection of you--if you love yourself, then the world loves you back.

5. Become detached from results and expecations, and fall in love with habits and the journey (what you can control).

6. Once you know yourself (core values, hobbies, tendencies, needs and wants), you will know your purpose. Once you know your purpose, you will know which direction to walk. Once you have direction, the question of success becomes a matter of time.

7. Empathy and emotional maturity makes for great leadership and friendship. We all put on our pants the same way in the morning.

8. Have faith that the one thing that you wanted to happen, often times is the best thing that never happened (prestige is nothing, culture is everything).

9. Men address conflict head-on; boys make passive-aggressive remarks.

10. Social media is fake as shit, be mindful of what you consume. That said, express yourself freely and openly.

Much love.

Congrats man. I came from a fortunate, successful family, yet I squandered many of my opportunities for most of my youth. I got D's and F's (final grade) in classes at times too. I was just super lazy and didn't give a shit. I also didn't hang out with the best crowd. It wasn't until my junior year of high school when my parents basically whipped me into shape, and I realized the path I was on would lead me to failure and hardship. I got my act together (mostly...) and began to grind. Now I have an EB offer, and I still feel kinda anxious when I think about the original path I was on. I hated my parents at the time, but now I realize that I would never have had this offer it it wasn't for them putting their foot down.
