Difficulty Transitioning from EB to BB as a VP
How difficult or uncommon is it to transition to a BB from a top EB (assuming same group) at the senior associate or VP1 level?
Interested in staying in banking long term, but doubt I will be the rainmaker necessary to climb the director ranks at my EB.
Sadly GS is growing the group I'm in and hiring, but alas I'm only but a humble A1 so I don't know if its worth it. (The GS group is pretty untested and new)
Not to devalue your question, but you have a lot of time to wait and see. I wouldn't make such a snap judgement yet if you've not even completed training. I would just focus on the next year or so first then re-evaluate if you still believe you're a bad fit.
To add to the above, there is also no such thing as a "rainmaker" VP. VPs are supposed to be masters of managing the MD's execution process, not bringing in clients. So essentially just a really, really good analyst. The only difference in senior banker capabilities are whether or not the bank can provide financing. Would really just wait and see. You will have better insight into what you want to do in a year or two, and at that point, it won't be a big deal to lateral.
Is this CMG?
Lol, that was fast. Someone is up to speed on GS
