Division choice: consumer and retail or Uk advisory and M & A at Barclays
I need to make a decision to choose either consumer retail or Uk advisory/M and A, please help in terms of what’s more interesting, more opportunities, less quantitative. I want to learn a lot, so any insights would be greatly appreciated. Please leave any input: this is for Barclays investment bank
would personally always go with a sector team over a coverage team. people appreciate when u have a deep understanding of one sector.
Not familiar with Barclays C&R but at the analyst level the exposure to different sectors and products in UK coverage is valuable for figuring out what you enjoy while keeping optionality to recruit into a sector coverage team in the future. However, ECM is still dead right now so it'll probably be mostly M&A work for a while longer
Un-related, can I ask if this is a graduate role? Or are you moving laterally having been in the industry?
Barclays Consumer team is not really strong, one of the weakest teams in fact. Would therefore advise to choose UK M&A team
