Do you use leverage in your long-term personal investment portfolio?
Investing in real estate and in private companies via LBOs often allows for 70%+ leverage, a feature that makes both especially conducive to generating and growing your wealth over the medium and long-term. I understand that in both cases the asset is typically more illiquid and stable, while obviously the stock market can be quite volatile and irrational in the short-term, but would it also make sense to use at least some leverage in a highly-diversified, long-term (1-2yr+ investment horizon) portfolio of 25+ holdings spanning multiple asset classes in the public markets? A lot of us are early in our careers saving 60%+ of our after-tax salaries, and with margin rates < 1.5%, I am curious — would you or have you invested using leverage?
