Done with SA 2025 Recruiting: Next Steps?

Sophomore at a small semi-target with no finance background. Managed to spend the past few months chained to the phone networking. Thankfully, it paid off and I just signed an offer at a BB for SA 2025 / MF PC for sophomore summer.

Not trying to be a hardo (can assure you I will not be doing anything other than partying for the rest of the semester) but is there anything else I should be doing in the next two years of undergrad I have left?

Given my background, I'm extremely lucky that I landed these positions and want to make sure I can secure the IB return offer. Hoping to learn the lingo this summer, and want to be somewhat prepared for on-cycle PE when that starts. Crammed all the IB technicals in two days and don't think that's feasible for future roles.

TIA. Would not be here today without this forum!

Congratulations on securing your SA 2025 position at a BB/MF PC for your sophomore summer! It's fantastic to hear that your hard work and networking have paid off. Based on the most helpful WSO content and insights from previous WSO threads, here are some steps you can consider taking in the next two years of your undergrad to ensure you're well-prepared for your internship and beyond:

  1. Deepen Your Financial Knowledge: While cramming IB technicals worked for your current role, a more sustainable approach would be beneficial for your long-term career. Consider dedicating time each week to deepen your understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and transaction structures. The WSO Financial Modeling Courses could be a great resource for this.

  2. Stay Informed: Keep up with financial news and trends. Regularly reading publications like The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and following relevant financial news on platforms like Bloomberg can help you stay informed. This will not only help you in conversations during your internship but also prepare you for on-cycle PE recruiting.

  3. Networking: Continue to network, not just for immediate opportunities but to build long-term relationships in the industry. Engage with alumni, attend industry events, and stay in touch with professionals you meet during your internship. Networking can provide insights into different roles and firms, which is invaluable for on-cycle PE recruiting.

  4. Leadership and Extracurricular Activities: Engage in leadership roles or extracurricular activities related to finance or your interests. This can enhance your resume, develop soft skills, and provide talking points during interviews. It also shows your ability to balance multiple responsibilities, a trait valued in high-pressure environments like IB and PE.

  5. Prepare for PE Recruiting: Given that PE recruiting can start early, it's wise to begin preparing as soon as possible. Familiarize yourself with the PE landscape, understand the types of deals PE firms are involved in, and start honing your LBO modeling skills. The WSO Private Equity Interview Prep package could be a valuable resource.

  6. Seek Mentorship: Find mentors who can guide you through your career, offer advice, and provide feedback. This could be professionals you meet during your internship, alumni, or even professors who have industry experience.

  7. Enjoy Your College Experience: While focusing on your career is important, don't forget to enjoy your college years. Balancing academics, career preparation, and personal time is crucial for your overall development and well-being.

Remember, the journey is as important as the destination. Each step you take now is building the foundation for your future career. Best of luck, and keep leveraging forums like WSO for advice and support along the way!
