Durham/Edinburgh/Warwick for IB?
Hi guys
I am graduating this year from a UK high school and currently picking my 5th university choice. I have already applied to LSE, UCL, KCL and St Andrews. Now I am trying to choose between Durham, Edinburgh and Warwick. Which one out of these 3 do you think is better for IB in UK/US? Which brand carries more prestige nationally and internationally? I know that Warwick is considered more of a 'target' but the other two seem so much more renowned.. I don't know. I know that LSE is a top target and UCL is just behind. But what do you guys think about KCL/St Andrews? And obviously what do you think about the universities in questions? I am hoping to kick-off my career as an IB analyst in London by the way. My long-term goal is business school in the US. Any advice is welcome!
Cheers
From personal experience Warwick is very good, targeted school, tons of alumni in the UK in IB and high finance. Edinburgh is not bad but unless you want to start at RBS in Edinburgh I would not consider it. Durham is also not too bad but not at the same level. LSE and UCL with OxBridge very good and targeted schools. Can't comment on KCL and St Andrews. If you have specific interest in a Bank just go to the career site and look at which career fairs they attend!
Warwick miles ahead of either not sure what you mean with either of them more renowned than Warwick lol, that and applying to KCL ( what is that, kings? If yes should have taken Warwick over that as well.) makes me think OP is trolling.
And omg applied to St. Andrews, the school with land ownership as only exit opp.
Other two have more history and aren't in the cesspool which is Coventry.
To those say Scotland is too far, I'm going to query how much you traveled to London from your uni? Obviously there could be banks being too lazy to send someone up, but then again it's a four year course, so more time to intern and drink.
Out of your additional choices, in terms of how targeted the places are it would be as follows:
Warwick (by a mile) Durham Edinburgh (quite heavily disadvantaged for being so high up North, unless you want to give the Northern AM shops (Aberdeen AM, Ignis AM and similar) a shot)
Out of all of your choices the top would be: LSE UCL/Warwick (effectively equal, but UCL has the advantage of being in London; if it weren't for the London aspect I personally would even give Warwick the nod, but that's just me) Durham/KCL (I know KCL gets some presence, but I've seen more Durham people than KCL people, but that's just personal experience) Edinburgh/St. Andrews (would go for Edinburgh out of the two; as mentioned before quite disadvantaged for being high up in Scotland)
Hope the above helps.
Like others have said, Warwick is miles ahead of Durham and Edinburgh for IB recruiting.
Always go with a better brand name.
Fuck, this is why I love bankers
