ECM to M&A how hard is the transition?

I’m an ECM Associate, I’ve been in ECM my entire career so I’ve never touched things like IMs, financial modelling, M&A process management, data rooms etc.

I’m now potentially switching to an M&A team, they said they’re fine with me coming from ECM and said that my main responsibilities will be:

  • running the M&A process including managing the data rooms and auction processes
  • managing and drafting the IMs
  • financial modelling

How hard is the above to transition into?

what does running the M&A process actually entail at the associate level and also how hard is it to manage the data rooms and auction processes?

additionally how difficult is drafting IMs? can someone without experience in this like my background in ECM come in at the associate level and do a good job? thanks
