European Business School to NY SA

Hi guys,

Realistically, what are the chances of a top European B-School student (HEC/LBS/St-Gallen/Bocconi..) of landing an IB summer internship in New York, given that: -recruiting seems to be done mostly on-campus in the US -my school's reputation is probably not very strong (non-existent?) in the US -on the plus side, I have some previous off-cycle IB experience, which I don't think will be the case for many US students.

Has anyone here since European students in NY SA roles, or it is unheard of? Thanks

First: do you have work authorization? If not, it’s going to be impossible.

Assuming you have it, your biggest problem is that you won’t be able to network (at least to the extent Americans do), and that’s the primary determinant of who gets SA offers in NYC. So let’s say that your chances are slim. Which is always better than none.

Thank you, quite insightful. Since I'm in an Master's program, a few of the problems you outlined don't apply to me (recruiting schedule/lack of experience), my main issue is still understanding whether HR even knows my school.

And to answer the previous post, I do have US citizenship.

The thing that my post may not cover is that in the US HR is basically useless. All interviews are on-campus or achieved by networking with people internally that will ask HR to give you an interview. Secondly, not only they will not know (potentially) your school but also you will have to explain what the actual fuck a masters is and why you are not going for associate roles (ie-post MBA). So sounds like a hell of a hassle.

Would recommend applying to London, and move to the US after 1 year here. Given that you don’t need sponsorship should be quite easy.
