Working in an ECM group?

I had wanted to work in markets since my sophomore year and initially focused on recruiting for roles in S&T and capital markets. After my interviews, I was offered a role on an Equity Capital Markets desk with a team I clicked well with at a prior firm networking event.

Before starting my internship this summer, I want to ask ECM folk what your honest thoughts are from working on the desk either as an intern or as full time. Did you enjoy the work? Were there any surprises or challenges to the role?

Those who left for other jobs, what led you to that move? Thank you.

The team I networked with and eventually received an offer to had emphasized the team sat closer to markets than to ibd

Some groups are like mine and other ECM teams sit closer to IB

ECM is not Markets. You are private side... There's no magic slider. It is firmly an investment banking team. Syndicate sits closer to Markets, but it is NOT a Markets role.

This is wrong. In certain groups, Equity Capital Markets leans closer to the markets side than to IB

Just curious, how does it work for ECM? Has been working in markets for quite some time and they only contact us when they are selling IPOs, and I believe that’s syndicate ?
