FIG - What verticals do you have at your FIG group?
I'm interested in FIG, but mostly in payment companies (think VISA etc) and Fintech. While any FIG group embraces way more types of financial companies, I'm wondering if there are any banks that have a specific vertical that only does that sort of transactions.
Can you please share the names of the banks you know/work at, and how they are split internally, that is what verticals do you have at your FIG group? Naming such in London would be particularly helpful.
Someone else chime in but at my former bank true Fintech was done via the Tech groups. FIG was more traditional groups like Depositories, Insurance, Spec Fin, Asset Management, etc.
For example, I think Square's IPO was lead by the same group at Goldman that did the Twitter IPO, aka TMT.
do payment companies fall under Spec Fin, or do they fall under TMT then (at least in case of BBs)? what is actually included in Spec Fin?
GS has fintech and asset management as a subvertical within fig so doubt that TMT took that one
Nah, you're wrong. TMT did Square.
BBs will be Banks, AM, Insurance, and Fintech. EB and Boutique will usually do no bank deals and focus more on AM and Insurance
ok thanks. But in BBs for example, do you work as a FIG generalist across all verticals or can you be, let's say, just a FIG - Fintech analyst?
Most if not all verticalize. Mine only started doing it recently because almost no one wanted to do a certain sub-vertical in my group and they complained lol. there's pros and cons to specialization.
Not completely true. Some BBs have fintech in TMT (Barclays, CS (RIP).
but then payment companies (think VISA, PayPal etc) which are not Fintechs stay within FIG anyway, or such deals can be done by TMT?
