Gold Loans and Mining Finance

Bit of a random question, and not necessarily the sexiest area of finance, but does anyone here know much about bullion banking, particularly gold loans where a bank lends gold to a junior miner who sells it to finance production that will be used to repay the loan? This method was apparently developed in the 1980s, particularly in Australia

Is this kind of structure still a thing? If so, who are the big players nowadays?
