Got rejected 1 day after SJT - UBS Global Banking Grad Paris
Hey!
As the title suggests, I was rejected one day after submitting the SJT (answered identically to the London application, for which I was subsequently invited to complete a HireVue).
I understand the rejection was likely automated, given how quickly it happened, but does anyone have insights into how this process works?
I'm not writing to complain—just trying to understand the mechanics and make sense of this outcome.
Classic ubs, just trash that email and move on
Have you looked at how many applications you are allowed to send?
hey!
ofc, it was in line with their requirements. otherwise, I would have not received the SJT.
It can’t be in line with the requirements because the requirements are 1 application in EMEA per cycle..
Hey!
I double checked it on the website, and it says the following:
"You may apply for one program within the UK and one in EMEA (excluding Switzerland) during the same academic year"
Do you mean you applied this week ?
If yes, it is 100% normal you were rejected considering that the recruitment process is almost finished.
1) The job offer was published in September. You are applying in December. It is way too late. So, there is no point in taking new CVs since the process is almost over. You should have applyied the very week the job offer was published.
2) Even if you had applied in September, you would be very likely to be rejected for two simple reasons.
a) First, lack of IBD experience. If you want a FT in a BB in Paris, you must have IBD experience. Most of your competition is likely to have 2-3 M&A internships from BB/EB or a French bank.
b) Second, number of people applying. BB in Paris might hire 1-2 new M&A analysts per year, not 20. Thus, you are competing with 100+ of great CVs for one spot.
3) You do not speak French. They might automatically reject people who do not speak it. You have so many jobless interns in Paris, so why hire someone who does not speak French? You would need to learn it.
Corporate M&A is a good internship, but if you are looking for a FT, it will not work in Paris.
Yoy could go for another M&A internship in a solid boutique or large cap bank in Paris. But remember that conversion rates are super low in Paris compared to London. If I were you, I would apply to the UK only.
