Group placements - Bulge Bracket

In regards to getting placed into a top group at a top BB, what are the typical guidelines to get in doing well.

I think I did everything from networking well and speaking to a lot of people to let them know I was interested in their particular group, but I'm afraid that because I'm not from the typical target school like Harvard, Wharton and Yale that my resume might be discounted. I do have fairly good experiences (relevant), but I'm not sure where I'll go from here. Any recommendations?

I always heard that if you speak to around 10 people within a particular group and that they all like you and can remember your name, that you should be good.

After networking, did you get the group you want?
