Group vs. Location

I am in a sticky situation, I have to decide between taking a top group (think LevFin, M&A, etc) at my bank's regional office and taking a lesser group in a main city (think NY, London, etc.). Both positions are front office IB at the same bank.

Considering I one day would like to work in either PE or Corp Development, which option do you all think would give better exit opportunities?

Assuming the deal flow is good at your regional office I would say a top group in a shittier location>lesser group in a great location. You also have to specify what you mean by "lesser group". Either way you are in a good spot. Remeber it is much easier to go to NY/London at a different shop if you have already been doing top group work.

Take the top group, save some money, and then figure out what you want to do from there (top MBA program, PE, Top group in "NY/LN", etc..).

Nice guys may not finish last but they sure don't finish first. Loyalty is not rewarded, it's taken advantage of.
