I was speaking to the HR of GS in London after successful interviews who said that their are currently not looking to hiring further laterals. Did anyone heard about a hiring freeze at the moment and can confirm this?

Yes, it seems the process was just stopped for some reason
Doesn't sound like a freeze as yet - GS is notorious for not updating you / ghosting so would first reach out to HR to check your candidancy.
