How important is networking in London???
Hey everyone, I understand networking is quite important in the US for getting interviews. Just wondering if the same applies to the UK? Do people also network massively to get interviews in London? ( for summer and ft roles) Thanks!!!
It's not important at all. Where it's useful is when you're interviewing, you're able to give in-depth answers, but thats the extent of it; you do not need to network to land interviews.
It's useful indirectly not directly i.e. networking is unlikely to push your CV past HR, but if you drop in your cover letter that you spoke to X and Y who said Z about the firm etc then you're much more likely to get past HR. Additionally for answering the why the firm question it's very useful to namedrop who you've spoken to.
Caveat for smaller firms it might get your CV pushed but for example MDs at Goldman are so far removed from the hiring process I doubt it will do anything
Thanks! So HRs do read the cover letter??? Didn't know it was that important.
Can't say for sure but I did well in recruiting and I spent a lot of time personalising each CL to each firm
nobody fucking reads them
