How to be exceptional?

Will be interning at a top group this summer. I come from an average school and have no peers or family in or going into finance so I always feel out of the loop and that im missing out when it comes to preparation/learning for finance careers. What can I do between now and the summer to make sure I can compete and perform very well? I'm aware of the opportunities performing well at my firm will bring so do not want to waste it.

Learn how to listen, take notes correctly, v up properly and save down ur own version of the model so u don’t fuck ours up

How much time is it worth spending learning modelling before the summer? Do interns typically get involved with any modelling?

Most groups have an intern project of some sort where you do a model in teams of 3-4 over the course of the summer. You'll do a lot of random excel work and lots in PPT like pasting logos and turning text comments

Definitely not expected to know how to model - if you weren't a finance major it'll be a steeper learning curve so I would try to have a reasonable understanding of the 3 statements / start to learn basic excel. But any finance major has probably covered that already
