How to go about group placement...

Hey all,

Group placement is coming up for my SA, and I am wondering to what extent should I know which group I want to be a part of? I wanted to go into banking, but I couldn't care less if I am in the tech coverage group or industrials, or anything else. All the groups have relatively the same prestige at my bank and produce similar exits. I know that M&A obviously has the pros of extensive modeling experience, but I don't think I need to be a part of that group to have success.

Essentially what I am getting at here is- should I just come up with some arbitrary reason for being interested in group x, y, or z? Or is the idea of me doing placement with a wide-open mind perfectly fine?

Thanks in advance for any knowledge or experiences you guys share.
