I work at HSBC. Considering they don’t do shit, not really surprised. Bulk of work is handled by sector corp banking coverage teams and LAF (both of which are sufficiently staffed).

Strong group from what I can tell. Really intelligent guys and we include their materials alot in pitches. Some clients love it. They just cut a director though. That group doesn’t generate revenue, they rely solely on attribution

Is their IB group moreso corporate banking?
No CB and IB are both housed under Global Banking, IB has their own sector advisory teams.
Considering a move to their dcm dept as an associate vs ecm at at regional bank in nyc. How shitty is morale at HSBC? Are they doing mass layoffs in investment banking like Citi and shit bonuses or?

Bonuses are announced in February, paid in March, so I guess we will hear in the next 2 weeks?
Absolute appalling. Right before bonus after 1 hard year of work.
They cut everywhere now - if you are at the bottom /analyst or associate, you are no longer protected. These are arguably the hardest working ones.

How is their new healthcare group?
They hired some director/MD (can’t remember) from CVP
HSBC usually do cuts in October/November time frame. Cuts now leading up to bonus season would be highly unusual.
The rumour I’ve heard is that bonus pool bank wide is up a bit this year. Not sure how much of that is allocated to Global Banking/Markets.
Would you take an offer at HSBC given the current market and their moves towards exiting US in the past couple of years? (still employed btw if that helps)
