Incoming AN 1 - Need advice

Hi everyone,

I will be graduating this month and joining a BB in London in their capital markets team. I would love to get some advice on a few details that will help me better prepare for life ahead. As an international student I never really had anyone to talk to about these issues and I recently came across this portal and it is a god send. Here are my queries -

1) Is there anything I can do to better prepare for the role. I have a month and want to make a good impression.

2) I am pretty happy with my base salary but I wanna know what the standard base and bonus pay could look like and when it would be paid for an AN1 in ECM. I’m aware it largely varies from bank to bank but an estimate would do.

3) Anything else to prepare for in-terms of personal finance? Getting a new credit card? I’m new to London as well. How can I best prepare apart from emergency funds?

4) Any general dos and don’t’s would be extremely valuable.

Thanks everyone!

1. Learn basic finance, start keeping an eye on ECM news and looking more into upcoming IPOs in your industry

2. This is very standardized at BBs. You can do a search on here for London bonuses to get an idea of comp. ECM is absolutely dead right now so have low expectations on bonus

3. What credit cards do you already have? I would get a credit card with a good points ecosystem instead of a generic college card, but no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a credit card fee.
