Internship Dilemma: This year at MM or next year at BB/Elite Boutique

I am in my penultimate year at university and have a summer internship at a decent MM firm. I also have an offer from a top BB/elite boutique for the following summer, but it is meant to be for students who will be in their penultimate year NEXT year. The reason I am in my penultimate year this year rather than next year, is because my plans for a year abroad exchange programme fell through.

I would love to work at the BB/elite boutique, but I don't know how to go about the situation. I have considered doing a masters after I graduate, meaning I would be in my penultimate year of study next year, and have also considered trying to push through to still go abroad next year, although the chances are highly unlikely (personal reasons). I haven't yet spoken to the BB about my situation, I'm not sure they would understand/ be sympathetic, and I'm not sure what I could say seeing as they could easily just take on someone else during recruitment season, who would be in a penultimate year next year. I could turn down the offer, do my stint at the MM this summer, and try to go for a grad position at the BB/elite boutique, but it would be a difficult jump from the MM.

Any advice on how to deal with this? Is it worth slaving another year at a masters course? How can I deal with HR?

Any advice would be helpful, cheers

EDIT: I am a UK student, and the internship offers are for London.

How do you have an offer so far in advance?

2 options. One look to take a masters or just add some bullshit courses without "graduating". You could actually take some random classes in the fall semester after your Elite internship and be fine, although it isn't the most cost effective approach.

Option 2 is, do you know/have good terms with an MD or associates at the bank that you could reach out to? You could tell them that you have the option of graduating early and could potentially start after the internship ends or sooner.

It is a little early to do any of these options considering how far away the problem is--no MD is going to want to solve this problem more than a year out. I would wait until after the summer internship is over and after you find out how you did at the MM firm.

Thanks for the reply. It's from attending an earlier programme over the spring for students the year before their penultimate year. They then ran the application process for summer 2016 earlier, for people who attended the programme.

The UK university system means that my graduation date is in 2016 for my course, it's not a credit system. the only i can extend my course is through going a abroad (my initial plan). Otherwise I could do a masters after graduating. I only really know an associate at the firm. I feel as if I have to decide soon because they'll be sending contracts out soon I think, otherwise I would just wait until the end of the summer.

I guess part of the question is, how can I persuade them to take me as an intern in my final year, and if I can't, is it worth then doing a masters (or trying to organise the year exchange again).
