it is me again, need advice
hey guys, some of you might remember me, i am the guy that ALMOST got into banking in london. anyways, i need some advice right now. i got a job today as a quantitative research analyst in the investment research division of an indian company. the job will be based in their chilean office. they have like 2 more research centers around the world. anyways, i am not asking about whether i should take it or not, i did accept the offer, starting next monday (need to pass their preemployment check first, crossing fingers...) anywyas, i wanted to ask you guys if you think that experience would be valuable if i later wanna transfer to IB. my plan is to get into a top b-school (hbs or wharton) after 2 or 3 years. i think i can get promoted to sr analyst next year and maybe manager in one more year , maybe 2 to be realistic. so my second question would be, is that experience enough for bschool, usually quants dont pursue an MBA. i know i will be able to get a recommendation letter from a really known managing director at a BB bank. [he iterviewed me and said to my manager i sounded promising), even thought i wont work formally for the bank i would still get an email account and access to their intranet and we work really closely. i am not looking for validation from you guys, i just need some piece of mind to know whether i should kiss IB goodbye or not. i just dont see myself working as a quant all my life.
You've always got a shot - not meant to be condescending at all. Your experience sounds like it should be pretty strong, and as long as you make the most of the opportunity, nail the GMAT, nail the essays and leave time for ECs/volunteering, you should be able to get into a good B school (in other words, your work experience coupled with promotions, if they come, will definitely NOT keep you out of a top b school). From a good B school, you should be able to make the jump into banking. Without B school, it will be tougher, but with a good B school, you should be able to break in (especially if the market turns back around, and employment kicks up as the years progress).

does anyone else find it slightly amusing that "bankonbanking", a SA is trying to give advice to people his senior, as if he knows anything past two weeks interning as an errand boy at GS.
According to his website, he's a full time analyst
I apologize, confused him with breaking consulting/banking, or whatever his name was. Feel free to rip for lack of attention to detail.
