London BB associate WLB In 2020
Saw some old info that WLB or “work-life integration” is slightly better in London than elsewhere even at BB’s.
what does this actually look like? (Post mba)
Is the deal flow and culture that brutal? 9-9 everyday 9-5s on weekends??
9-9 hahahahahahaha seems a joke for what I have seen
Better expect 9-12 including some 9-3 if you are in a team with nice dealflow
Weekend work bad too? I have heard London banks are getting a lot better at weekends.
Not going to be so much of an always on call culture on weekends if you're not live. Also better respect for holidays (and statutorily you're given quite a few weeks).
But as with everything if you're on a deal, it's pencils down, WLB out of the window.
So 9-9 or so during the week Is reasonable and only occasional weekend work?
Definitely agree, associates work as much as analysts and WE work would say it’s not so much about facetiming and more about do you need to get things done quickly for a deal (so it might vary from 0 to 15+ hours). Bear in mind there are protected weekends / protected Saturdays which are pretty well respected
So Saturday’s and sundays are free if no hot deals?
You usually have to work for a few hours anyways (because you’re staffed on 3-4 deals) but with more leeway as to when to do it if nothing’s hot
