London IB Internships as International First-Year – Scope?
Hi, I'm an incoming first-year student at a top target university in the US, will be studying finance + related as an undergraduate. I am a non-EU, non-UK, and non-US citizen, and as a result of the lattermost cannot intern in the US after my first year from a visa standpoint. At the same time I would be interested at interning (preferably in IB) in a global financial hub, and I believe that UK also offers a 'Tier 5' visa for international (non-EU) students looking to do an internship in the country.
So my question is there any scope for first-year non-UK students to intern at any globally recognized brand in their London offices? And if so, are these typically done through family connections, or is it possible to land these kinds of opportunities as a direct applicant?
I understand that as a first-year student I will have scope to learn no matter where and should be grateful for whatever I end up doing, but as far as potentially landing an opportunity that can best set me up for my career, I'd greatly appreciate any advice on this.
Thanks in advance!
