Moving from DCM to M&A (SA to FT)

Hey, I am currently interning at a pretty solid MM IB in their DCM division. I am interested in making an internal transfer switch to their M&A division for FT. I am not fully sure how to navigate this, so I came here to ask for advice.

I realize that my first priority is to be the best darn intern out there so that I can get the return offer and have my senior team back me up. I feel pretty good about the team culture here and the seniors seem helpful in enabling professional growth. But besides the return offer, is there anything else I can be doing (incl. networking) to increase my odds of successfully making the switch in the least risky way.

Also, the main reason I am looking to switch to M&A is because of the technical-heavy experience. DCM is not as exciting as I thought it would be (probably need to frame this better in an interview). Any insights would be great. Thanks!
