Name Dropping in Cover Letters
Hey all, this concerns cover letters. How would you go about name-dropping and quoting bankers previously networked with in an eloquent and less 'in your face' manner? Thanks!

I wouldn’t name drop at all. If there’s a mutual connection between you and the interviewer it could help build rapport. That’s just my opinion though. Hope you get more POVs.
This in terms of the cover letter specifically.
I'll elaborate. I wouldn't recommend name-dropping in a cover letter. Assuming you get to the interview stage, then it might be appropriate to name-drop if it's relevant.
they wont be read dont worry.. might be different but only resume for US
yup this is for the UK
There are a few ways to do this quasi-appropriately, though name-dropping often comes off the wrong way. If you are family-friends with a senior banker, best to contact that person directly or outside of the formal recruitment process. If you want to mention in your cover letter that you networked with someone at that firm/had an informational interview, describe what that person told you about the firm. For example, many people will touch on why they want to work at the firm to which they are applying. You can says something along the lines of: "Joe Banker said Firm does a lot of work in xyz space, which is something that has always interested me blah blah blah." This makes it seem less like a name-drop, and more like a way to contextualize how you know the information you are describing. Again, it is better to contact those people outside of the formal recruitment process and try to get an internal referral. Most large companies (banks included) have an internal webpage for formal recommendations/referrals.
don't worry about it, spend time studying technicals
thanks, will do
