numerical based questions during interview how best to prepare?

Hi, I have an IB interview coming up and the recruiter said I'll be asked numerical based questions. Mental math isn't my strong suit and was wondering if anyone got advice for this? I've been very good at interviews but mental-math based questions always been a weak point.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips to prepare for numerical-based questions during an IB interview:

  1. Practice Mental Math Regularly:

    • Consistent practice is key. Use resources like mental math apps or websites to improve your speed and accuracy.
    • Focus on common calculations such as percentages, ratios, and basic arithmetic.
  2. Understand the Importance of Mental Math:

    • Mental math skills are often seen as a proxy for intelligence in interviews. Improving this skill can significantly boost your confidence and performance.
  3. Simulate Interview Conditions:

    • Practice under timed conditions to simulate the pressure of an actual interview. This can help you get accustomed to performing under stress.
  4. Use Brainteasers and Logical Problems:

    • Incorporate brainteasers and logical problems into your practice routine. These can help improve your problem-solving skills and mental agility.
  5. Review Common Financial Calculations:

    • Ensure you are comfortable with key financial metrics such as EBITDA, EBITDA margin, and FCF. Practice calculating these metrics quickly and accurately.
  6. Seek Resources and Practice Tests:

    • Utilize resources like the practice questions available at http://practice.cappassessments.com/ to familiarize yourself with the types of numerical questions you might encounter.
  7. Stay Calm and Focused:

    • During the interview, take a moment to breathe and collect your thoughts before answering. Staying calm can help you avoid simple mistakes.

By following these tips, you can improve your mental math skills and be better prepared for numerical-based questions in your upcoming IB interview. Good luck!
